About Jen Danskine

I’ve never been one to follow a straight path and keep focused on just the one thing. Life is filled with many incredible twists and turns that change us, challenge us to grow and take our breath away in the unlikeliest of places.

I think visual beauty can be found in almost anything – long afternoon shadows that criss-cross over floorboards, bright colours and abstract shapes looking down on a plate of sushi; the way telegraph poles break up a street scene.  When I create, I try and bring the beauty and inspiration of life into my art. The more I engage with art, the more I continue to see life through a different lens.

Living in London and San Francisco and lots of travel dotted in-between have been fundamental experiences, and opened my eyes to the wonderous world we live in. I’m forever grateful and forever looking for the next adventure.

Yet through creating art I get this same sense of freedom, and adventure. I find myself lost in the moment, in flow – just as I would walking through an ancient city. Something magical takes hold and my mental chatter melts away (not an easy feat).

Through first-hand experience I know the power of art. Art can help us heal, help us discover who we are, lift anxiety and depression. It can fill us with a sense of achievement, help us connect to ourselves and connect to others. For these reasons I couldn’t be more passionate to share this same joy and inspiration with others.

I have a BFA at UNSW, College of Fine Arts, vast experience in marketing, copywriting and fundraising, and an Advanced Degree in Art Therapy at the College Complimentary Medicine.

My week is deliciously divided into teaching a range of art classes, art therapy, and working in the Arts and Health Program at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse/ RPA. And spending time with my lovely husband, our two spritely, entertaining kids, our dog Tahoe and laughing with good friends that make up my ‘village’.
